Club Championships - Thank You

A very big thankyou to everyone who helped to ensure the Club Championships was such a success. Thank you to those that organised and ran the raffle and the swimshop and to those who put in the preparation and organisation behind the scenes to ensure the championships ran so smoothly. A very big thank you to the parents who came forward to help on poolside. To say that it was cool on poolside was a big understatement, but it didn't seem to deter the enthusiasm of any of the helpers. And finally a very big thank you to the swimmers who to took part. I hope you all enjoyed the evening and I would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and look forward to seeing you all in 2011.

Stirling Junior Open Meet: Alere Technologies Gold Sponsor

Stirling Swimming is delighted to have Alere Technologies Ltd as its Gold Sponsor for the Stirling Junior Open Meet to be held in January 2011. It is the sixth year running that the two day event has received backing from the company which has developed a unique medical device to monitor and manage the treatment of patients suffering from heart disease. President of Stirling Swimming David Rogerson commented: “I wish to express my sincere thanks to Alere Technologies Ltd for their generosity in acting as the main sponsor for our Junior Open Meet. Without the support of Alere, provided over many years, the Stirling Junior Open would not have become one of the most popular swimming competitions in Scotland.”

A cheque for £800 was presented to Club Vice President Anne Wilson and Head Coach Kerry Wood by Calum Saunders of Alere Technologies Ltd.

Parents Festive Night Out

Stirling swimming management committee would like to invite all parents or guardians of swimmers for a festive night out in Stirling on Saturday 15th January at 7:30pm. This night out will involve going for a meal followed by some drinks with the venue to be confirmed. The festive night out usually happens prior to Christmas but due to the weather conditions and the frequency of galas this has not been possible so it was felt that after the festive period would be the best option. The night itself is pretty informal and is a good chance to get to know other parents away from the swimming pool. If you would like to go could you let me know through programming@stirlingswimming.co.uk or smudger1297@live.co.uk or indeed through the other committee members.

Gala Entry Forms - Reminder

Please note that the Gala Entry Forms for January – August 2011 should be returned by 18 December.

Please be aware that the “Squad” column on the gala entry form is to be used as a guide only.  Swimmers from squads not named for a particular event are not excluded from entering that event e.g. swimmers from Club squad entering graded meets.  However, it should be remembered that open meets and championship events often have entry times that have to be achieved before a swimmer will be accepted for that event.  Unfortunately, even if a swimmer has achieved an entry time for an open meet or championship event, this is no guarantee that their entry will be accepted.  This often depends on the popularity of the event.

Swimmer of the Month

The club would like to resuscitate the Swimmer of the Month awards in 2011. This was a popular feature among the swimmers, but requires a volunteer who could liaise with the coaches to determine who is the Swimmer of the Month and then take a photograph of the winning swimmer and get the swimmer to complete a short questionnaire. The photo and completed questionnaire will then be posted on the website. Would anyone like to volunteer for this task? It's not all that onerous and will, in fact, only take place every other month. If you would like to volunteer, please email president@stirlingswimming.co.uk.

Thanks,
David

West District DRP Day 3 - CANCELLATION NOTICE

Forwarded:

Due to the ongoing adverse weather conditions, it has been decided to cancel all West District DRP Groups at all Centres i.e.

West 1, Levels 1 & 2, Lanark Pool, CANCELLED West 2, Levels 1 & 2, Elderslie Pool, CANCELLED West 3, Levels 1 & 2, Bo'ness Pool, CANCELLED

There is rumour of a thaw towards the end of the week, however as I write this, the M8 West is still closed, snow is deepest I have seen in Hamilton in 30 yrs, I drove from Fife to Hamilton yesterday and was my worst drive in 40yrs.
Personel safety is our concern and we should not compromise that for a sport activity.

Hopefully I have included all swimmers in the distribution, however as always please spread the word as much as possible, the grapevine is always more effective !!

At this time, don't ask about replacement day etc...basically I don't know.

The Peak: Swimming Pool Closed

Forwarded from ActiveStirling:

There has been a burst pipe at the Peak, as a result of this the Swimming Pool has been closed over the weekend, with the possibility of further closures.

Club Championship: Volunteers

Hello Everybody

It's Club Championships night coming up soon and I'm looking for volunteers to help out.

The Club Championships are being held at The Peak on Saturday the 18th December, starting at 5pm and finishing at 8pm.

I am looking for people to help in the following roles;

1. Marshalling - Helping to get swimmers ready for their races, at least 3 people to help here please
2. Selling raffles and programmes at the door
3. Officials - timekeepers and judges please - even if you haven't got all your signatures, or those who are waiting to go on the course - or are even considering going on an officials course -and would like to help, I would be delighted to hear from you.

4. I may also need help with printing of the programmes and time sheets

If there are any parents and older swimmers not taking part in the Championships, who would be willing to help out, please could you either put your name on the board at the university or email to let me know that you can help.

I look forward to hearing from you

Many thanks

Anne Wilson

WD Group 7 - CANCELLATION NOTICE

Forwarded

All,

Due to the ongoing adverse weather conditions and the poor driving conditions in many areas I have decided to cancel the Championships at Cumbernauld this weekend.

The safety of all personnel is my first priority and there is no sense in putting people at risk for the sake of a swim meet. Everything has to be kept in perspective.

Can you please ensure that this decision/information is communicated to anybody/everybody in your Club that may have been going to the Meet.

As well as swimmers/parents/coaches etc., please remember any Technical Officials who are in your Club but no longer have children swimming.

I appreciate that certain areas of District may not be affected as badly as others, but as I write the snow is falling very heavily in Hamilton and has been all morning and feedback from Swimming Committee members over the last 24hrs from other areas has contributed to my decision.

Knowing my luck, we will have the thaw of the century by Friday, but I feel decision better made now than at last minute.

Regards

John
