Cakes and raffle prizes needed

The club is running a new gala this year - the Stirling Autumn meet on October 2nd.   Our main objective is to raise much needed funds for the club.  To help achieve this goal we are looking for help in two ways:

  • Could you bake a cake?  It doesn't need to be the parents - the swimmers could do this too.
  • Could you donate a raffle prize?  It doesn't have to be large or expensive.

There will be an opportunity at the Grand Prix this week to sign up for the baking and.or hand in raffle prizes.

Many thanks for whatever support you can give.

Grandprix Saturday September 25

This coming Saturday is the first round of the club's Grand Prix. It is held at the University pool between 8am and 10am. I am asking for people to come forward to help, marshalling, timekeeping, starter and judges. Even if you have never done this before we would still welcome your help. Those of you who are officials or who have just taken the timekeepers course, we would love to see you too. Just come and see us at the start end of the pool and make yourself known. We would be delighted to see you.

STIRLING SWIMMING APPOINTS NEW INTEGRATED SWIMMING COACH

Scottish Swimming is delighted to announce the appointment of Kerry Wood as Stirling Integrated Squad Coach.

Kerry brings to the role a wealth of coaching experience, most recently as head coach for Stirling Swimming Club where she has brought through and developed many young athletes including Martin Cremin, who is currently Scotland’s number one ranked swimmer over 800m and 1500m Freestyle.

In addition for the past 12 months Kerry has been coaching disability athlete Jim Anderson who won three bronze medals at the IPC World Championships in Eindhoven this year.

The Stirling Integrated Squad will encompass the top end of the Stirling Swimming Club and University of Stirling swimming squad as well as athletes from British Disability World Class Programmes and Scottish National Squad disability athletes.

The Stirling Integrated Squad will operate at the National Swimming Academy at the University of Stirling.

This post is the result of an innovative partnership between Scottish Swimming, Stirling Swimming Club, University of Stirling, Active Stirling and Central Sporting Partnership, aimed at supporting the local, regional and national swimmer pathway.

Ally Whike, Director of Performance (Scottish Swimming) said,

“This is an excellent development for the area and we’re all delighted that Kerry is now on board at Scottish Swimming. It’s fantastic that so many of the local partners have recognised the need for such a position and shows a great willingness to invest into the swimmer pathway.”

Kerry will commence her new role on 4th October, 2010 and will be line managed by National Coach Doug Campbell.

-Ends-

NOTES TO EDITORS
·         Scottish Swimming is working in partnership with Stirling Swimming Club, Sportcentral, Active Stirling and the University of Stirling to implement an integrated squad including both disabled and non-disabled swimmers at the home of Scottish Swimming, the National Swimming Academy.
·         The squad is being created to bridge the gap between senior club swimmers in the area and the current Stirling Performance Squad/ British Swimming Intensive Training Centre. The inclusion of performance disability swimmers through provision of both integrated and disability specific sessions allow Scottish disability athletes the chance to train full time in a high performance environment in Scotland. In addition, this also allows the opportunity for potential/future Paralympians to programme additional sessions to supplement their home programme set-up.
·         The squad will have access to both long and short course training and the full time squad coach will be responsible for the delivery of the programme in its entirety and have a remit to underpin the programme by directing Stirling Swimming Club’s technical development and linking into Scottish Swimming Disability Programmes.
